✤   In limiting condition of combined nitrogen, rhizobia induce the formation of nodules in plant roots.

✤   Nodules are the site of metabolic exchange between bacteria and the host plant. The bacteria fix           atmospheric nitrogen and reduce ammonium directly assimilated by the host plant.
